Trio KLM
Why the name? In case you were wondering, it's nothing to do with airlines...
About Us
Trio KLM started out of a love for playing chamber music. Getting together to play Colin's arrangements for this low-strings ensemble was a really good time.
People started asking us to give private and public concerts, as well as live-stream broadcasts, and before we knew it our trio was born.
Why KLM? It's just a simple combination of the first letter of each of our names. Yeah, it's not too exciting, but we save the excitement for our music and performances. We love to make our audiences laugh with our foolish banter, to make them lean in to our sounds, and to sprinkle in a little backstory on the music, for curiosity's sake.
Thanks for visiting our page! Looking forward to seeing you at a concert or in the YouTube comments!

Our Members
Max Kasper
Principal Bassist of Symphony Nova Scotia since 1986, Max Kasper has gained quite a following for the public education concerts/lectures he has organized and hosted at the Halifax Public Library since 1990. As well as occasionally hosting Symphony School concerts and narrating "Peter and the Wolf" too many times to count, he has acted as MC for many events in the community over the years and was one of the hosts for the Symphony‘s “Musically Speaking” concerts.
Of course his first passion is the Double Bass, which he began playing in the Toronto public school system at the age of ten. The rest just seemed to fall into place… Max has appeared as a soloist with the orchestra on several occasions, as well as performing in many solo recitals over the years. He also loves playing chamber music and as well as playing in the KLM trio, he is part of the “Gatto Dolce Duo” with cellist Colin Matthews. They released a CD: “Duets for Cello and Bass” in the Spring of 2008. Max has a keen interest in Period music; he is a member of Rejouissance, and the Tempest Baroque Ensemble in Halifax, and is an extra player with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in Toronto.
Now pursuing a second career as a bow maker, Max has the unique distinction of playing on a bass and bows he has made himself. He lives in Bedford with his love, Esther Ricketts, and their cat Finnegan. In his spare time he likes to watch TV, read, sleep and feed Finn.
Catherine Little
Cellist Catherine Little is on a mission to build a bridge to classical music. She is no stranger to other genres- born and raised in Nova Scotia, she's had the advantage of living in a rich folk song and Celtic culture. This varied exposure has inspired her to use storytelling to connect with her audiences.
Catherine has performed with the cello sections of Montreal's Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Symphony Nova Scotia, and the Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia. She was the solo “pit” cellist for seven musicals at Halifax's Neptune Theatre and has played on stage with pop acts like Jenn Grant, Il Divo and Rod Stewart.
Catherine has an Honours Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University (2007), and a Master’s in Music Performance from the Université de Montréal (2010). She has recorded with The Baroque N’ Fiddle String Quartet for the 2012 Buttermilk Mary album, with violinist Anna Wedlock for Czardas, from Big Turnips, Vol. 2, 2018), with singer-songwriter Terra Spencer for In the City (2018), on the Orchestrated Neighbours project with the Bela String Quartet (2019), on Ryan MacGrath’s album, Hearth and Home (2019), on Joyful Talk’s Pixelated Skin (2020), and she released her first solo album, Taking Five, with pianist Gregory Myra, in 2021.
Colin Matthews
After musical studies at Dalhousie and McGill Universities, Colin continued with a career as both a Chamber Musician and Orchestral cellist. He has played with numerous ensembles including L’orchestre Symphonique De Laval, the Thunder Bay Symphony, and the Kingston Symphony (acting principal cellist and soloist).
He has appeared as a chamber musician and solo cellist at such festivals as The Ottawa Valley Chamber Music Festival, and "New Music in New Places". He was also invited to be a guest performer for the The Scotia Festival of Music. Colin has been recorded in film scores, CBC radio broadcasts and two new
CD's produced by "New Music North" and Gatto Dolce respectively.
In 2000, after a 15 year absence, Colin returned to Halifax where he is now the head of a vibrant cello studio as well as being the cellist for the Duo "Gatto Dolce and a member of the Basso Nova ensemble. Mr. Matthews was also the cellist for the critically acclaimed hit stage production "The Satchmo Suite".
